BFTCorporateTrustees2022: Axis Pensions Launches 200,000 Cedis Scholarship for Tertiary Students

Axis Pension Trust, a leading private pension provider in Ghana, in collaboration with the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has launched the Axis Scholars Fellowship. This announcement was made at the 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the company held under the theme “Celebrating 10 Years of Inspiring the African Worker to Achieve Financial Peace of Mind”. The event brought together hundreds of participants from the Axis Pension ecosystem – Shareholders, Trustees, Clients, Staff, Partners and Friends of the Business.

At the event, the Board of Directors of Axis Pension Trust announced an annual commitment of GHS 200,000 towards the Axis Scholars Fellowship to support the education of brilliant but needy tertiary students in Ghana. The Axis Scholars Fellowship will commence offering scholarships for the 2023 academic year starting with students from the University of Ghana Business School. Students will be afforded the opportunity to apply and demonstrate their need for financial support to complete their education at the Business School.

The Board Chairman of Axis Pension Trust, Mr. Ernest Kusi-Ababio, while making the announcement, highlighted the impact of Axis Pensions, not only in rendering its core services but also through the numerous CSR projects the business has undertaken in the last decade. Mr. Kusi-Ababio remarked that this latest CSR Project, is proof of Axis Pensions’ commitment to being a force for good in society. He stressed on the desire of the organization to expand the coverage of the scholarship to other institutions in the coming years.

Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah, representing the Dean of the University of Ghana Business School, in his acknowledgement remarks expressed the profound gratitude and excitement of the School for the gesture. He emphasized the importance of the announcement since it is the first of its kind in the 60-year history of the UGBS. Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah shared stories of students dropping out of school in their final year due to financial constraints. He concluded his remarks by endorsing the fellowship on behalf of the Business School and commended Axis Pension Trust for the initiative.

The Thanksgiving Service is part of a series of activities to mark the 10th anniversary milestone of Axis Pension Trust and celebrate individuals and organizations that have played key roles in the successes achieved over the past 10 years. In addition to the launch of the Axis Scholars Fellowship, the service featured performances by the renowned Harmonious Chorale, Minister Prince Dansel,  a Sermon by Rev. Dr. Wengam (Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel AG) and Intercessory Prayer to seek the face of God for the next decade.
